Geneva Temps working night shifts
Doing a “Watch” on Night Duty? Having trouble staying awake?
As a Geneva Temp, you absolutely must not fall asleep on
shift. Even if other staff do it - it's not OK for you.
Not even a 2 minute doze is OK!
Getting a good sleep during the day is imperative. Take
time to wind down when you get home and then turn off the phone,
close the curtains and sleep as if it's night - a cat nap on the
sofa is not enough.
Eat well when you wake up (just as you would have a hearty
breakfast) and have a light/healthy meal before you go to work (a
full tummy will always make you sleepy).
Take a flask of a hot or sugary drink to work with you.
It's important to keep hydrated.
Stand up and stretch regularly - try some light exercise (as
long as it's not noisy and sweaty!)
Make sure your Charge Nurse has arranged for you to take
adequate breaks and use this time to recharge your batteries - have
a snack and a good walk to keep yourself awake.
