English Language Requirements
In order to meet the English Language Requirement with the
Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency,
registration applicants must obtain the required pass marks in
either the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or
the Occupational English Test (OET).
Exemptions: If you have completed both your Secondary Education
taught and assessed in English to the requisite level for entry
into a Nursing and/or Midwifery program, AND a Nursing
and/or Midwifery program taught and assessed in English in one of
the following countries, AND you can provide evidence
that both were taught and assessed in English, this is deemed as
sufficient to meet the AHPRA English Language Requirement:
- Australia
- Canada
- New Zealand
- Republic of Ireland
- United Kingdom
- United States of America
Evidence consists of:
- Secondary Education - School leavers certificate, E.g. For the
UK this will be either your GCSE's, O Levels or A Levels
- Tertiary Education - Degree/Diploma of Nursing and/or Midwifery
Certificate, and Full Academic Transcripts

language test involves, from booking and applying for a test date,
awaiting confirmation of this test date, studying for the test, and
sitting and obtaining your results. We attempt to clarify
some of the questions you may have.
English
Language Testing System (IELTS)
You are required to pass the IELTS Academic
test with a score of a minimum of 7 in all
four components: reading, writing, speaking and listening, and all
in one sitting. Your test results will be valid for a period
of two years.
Occupational English Test
(OET)
You must pass the OET test with at least a level B in all four
components: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
