Queensland
Queensland (QLD) boasts pristine beaches, tropical islands,
national parks, lush rainforests, vibrant cities and the authentic
Australian outback, and is known as Australia's Sunshine
State.
The people of Queensland enjoy a relaxed
ourdoor lifestyle, affordable homes, the lowest taxes in
Australia, and easy commuting making it an
attractive place to live and work. The state
has approximately 4 million people.
Weather and Climate
Queensland has a pleasant climate - average summer temperatures
average 25 degrees Celsius, average winter temperatures average 15
degrees Celsius.
However due to the size of Queensland, the climate does vary
across the state. Low rainfall and hot summers are typical
for the inland west, a monsoonal 'wet' season in the far north, and
warm temperate conditions along the coastal strip. Inland and
in southern ranges low minimum temperatures are experienced.
Brisbane
Brisbane is the third largest city in Australia, the capital and
most populous city of Queensland. It is situated on the
Brisbane River on plains between Moreton Bay and the Great Dividing
Range in south-eastern Queensland.
The city is named in honour of Sir Thomas Brisbane who was
Governor of New South Wales from 1821 - 1825. The original
settlement grew from a penal colony established at his direction in
1824 at Redcliffe. The colony was moved to what is now the location
of the Brisbane CBD in 1825, and free settlers were permitted from
1842.
Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is a city in the southeast corner of Queensland,
Australia. It is the second most populous city in the state and the
sixth most populous city in the country. Gold Coast City is
renowned for its sunny subtropical climate, popular surfing
beaches, expansive waterway and canal systems, a skyline dominated
by high-rise apartment buildings, active nightlife and wide variety
of tourist attractions.
Sunshine Coast
The Sunshine Coast (population 290,645 with up to an additional
50,000 in visitors and seasonal workers) is a coastal region, north
of the Queensland capital of Brisbane. It is bordered by the
Pacific Ocean in the east, and extends beyond the Blackall Range to
